TV AND RADIO

FIRST STEPS

My first live radio interview was for Radio Derby in 1987.  I’ve never been able to go back and listen to it again!  I had to tell the audience what ‘sustainable development’ meant in a sound bite, which I did rather ineptly.  Even worse though was when I tried to explain that environmentalists had moved into the mainstream.  I said that they were no longer ‘long-haired hippies with open-toed sandwiches’ – of course I meant sandals.

Not long after this, the original Green Consumer Guide was published, and I spent a lot of time in TV and radio studios appearing breakfast TV, the Today Programme, Women’s Hour – even ITV and BBC News.   And in 1989 I presented a regular slot called Green Matters on ITV’s This Morning Programme, with Richard & Judy.

MORE RECENTLY

I haven’t done much television in the last few years – just a few fleeting appearances, such as being a judge for ITV News – Eco Heroes nominations, alongside Anita Roddick and Jeremy Leggett (Solar Century).  I’d like to do more – I have a particular yearning to appear on Question Time or the radio equivalent Any Questions.  This was compounded by a Question Time style event, I participated in at the Royal Geographic Society, alongside David Miliband, who was at the time, Minister for the Environment, and Fiona Reynolds, Director of the National Trust.

In the last few years I’ve appeared on lots of radio programmes debating green issues, including a series of interviews on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, the Jeremy Vine Show on Radio 2 and the Anita Annand Show on Radio 5, as well as numerous regional programmes
